New Saluda Elementary School
Project Summary
The new 126,500-square-foot elementary school was carefully constructed just six feet from the existing campus, which remained fully operational throughout the duration of the project. Serving as Construction Manager at Risk, M. B. Kahn partnered closely with architect SSOE to deliver the project through a strategic multi-phase construction approach that minimized disruptions to students, faculty, and daily school operations.
Phase one included construction of the primary 99,500-square-foot academic building while the existing school remained occupied. After students and staff transitioned into the new facility, phase two began with demolition of the original school and completion of an additional 20,500-square-foot classroom wing dedicated to Kindergarten and Pre-K programs. The project also included construction of a new detention pond, redesigned parent pick-up areas, and updated bus circulation routes to improve campus traffic flow and safety.
Throughout construction, M. B. Kahn maintained close coordination with school leadership to align project activities with school schedules, events, and campus operations. The team carefully managed underground utility and storm drainage installation at the active site entrance to keep the project progressing safely and efficiently.
During demolition, the construction team uncovered a historic cornerstone containing a time capsule. M. B. Kahn coordinated with a local Masonic Lodge to preserve and safely remove the artifact, honoring the history of the original school.
The project represents a successful collaboration between the School District, design team, and trade partners to deliver a modern, student-focused educational facility. In addition to the new elementary school, M. B. Kahn also constructed a new football stadium field house adjacent to the campus and completed multiple renovation projects at Hollywood Elementary School.
