Hardy Elementary School
Project Summary
The new two-story elementary school serves Pre-K through 4th grade students and was designed to support a modern, project-based 21st century learning environment. As a trusted Virginia general contractor, M. B. Kahn delivered the phased project while the adjacent school remained operational, successfully completing the new facility prior to demolition of the existing building.
Located on the existing Hardy Elementary School campus, the 21.6-acre site development included extensive erosion and sediment control measures, stormwater piping, retention ponds, utilities, a force main sanitary system, parking areas, driveways, bus loops, playgrounds, athletic fields, concrete sidewalks, fencing, and other critical infrastructure improvements. The project team also constructed a retention pond and implemented advanced runoff management systems, including silt fencing, to support long-term environmental protection and site stability.
Serving as Construction Manager at Risk, M. B. Kahn collaborated closely with RRMM Architects from the early planning stages to coordinate logistics, maintain schedule efficiency, and deliver the project under a successful Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) contract. This project further demonstrates M. B. Kahn’s expertise in K-12 school construction, phased occupied-campus projects, and educational facility construction throughout Virginia and the Southeast.
